STAINED GLASS WINDOWS

The church’s liturgy retells and embodies the fullness of God’s story in worship. We do this through songs, prayers, preaching, and celebrating the sacraments together! Art is also an essential tool in worship as it uniquely brings life to the stories we find throughout the scriptures in a unique and powerful way. Rev. Lauren Wright Pittman designed these Faux Stained Glass Windows that tell the story of our liturgy - God gathers us together, God speaks to us, we respond to God, and God sends us out to be God’s hands and feet in the world.

WINDOW ONE - GOD GATHERS
WINDOW TWO - GOD SPEAKS
WINDOW THREE - WE RESPOND
WINDOW FOUR - GOD SENDS

Window 1 God Gathers

Top image: God’s hands form life out of earth; we are the work of God’s hands. We are created, gathered together, shaped, and molded throughout our lives by God’s loving hands. Genesis 2:1-24 | Isaiah 64:8
Middle Image: The Holy Spirit’s descent on Pentecost, where people were gathered together and received the gifts of the Spirit.
Bottom image: We are gathered under God’s wing like a mother hen who gathers her chicks. Luke 13:31-35

Window 2 God Speaks

Top image: Traditional hand positioning representing God’s voice breaking into the world.
Middle image: God speaks from the generative fire of the burning bush, which invites Moses into his calling and leads the liberation of God’s people.
Exodus 3:1-12
Bottom image: God’s self-revelation is through the person of Jesus - his life, death, and resurrection. Jesus holds his hand in the positioning of what is referred to as a Trinitarian Blessing. Jesus’ ring finger and pinky are touching his thumb, symbolizing the persons of the Trinity, and two fingers are held up, representing the two natures of Christ, Divine and human.

Window 3 We Respond

Top image: Hands offer up and receive the elements of communion.
Middle Image: A woman pours out perfume on Jesus’ feet in an extravagant response to God’s faithfulness and preparation for Christ’s path to the cross. John 12:1-3 | Luke 7:36-38
Bottom image: Miriam dances with her tambourine in response to God’s incredible deliverance of the Israelites out of slavery. Exodus 15:20-21

Window 4 God Sends

Top Image: God’s hand points us forward, encouraging those gathered to join in the work of bringing the Kingdom of God to Earth. We are to be God’s disciples, fishers of people.
Middle Image: Jesus commissions the disciples to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
Bottom Image: Olive branches encircle the globe. God sends those gathered out of the worship space and into a broken world that needs God’s peace.
